The funding will help Tribes address drought, flooding, wildfire, and coastal erosion.
Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland announced that $120 million has been made available to help Tribal communities address climate issues, including increasing droughts, wildfires, floods, and coastal erosion. Secretary Haaland made the announcement this month while visiting the Gun Lake Tribe in Michigan, which received $4 million last year to install solar panels on their public buildings.
“As I’ve visited Indigenous communities across the country, I have seen firsthand how pressing the climate crisis is for Indigenous peoples and the urgency with which we must move to honor our obligations to Tribal Nations,” said Secretary Haaland. “This investment… is a critical step toward further enabling Tribes to make thoughtful and proactive decisions about how to protect their people, their homelands and sacred sites, and critical community infrastructure.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Haaland to be discerning as she engages the leaders of Tribal nations.
- For Interior Department officials as they evaluate the support Tribal nations need to preserve their lands from natural disasters.
- For the president and his advisors as they grant resources to Indigenous communities.
